  • CASA SEAT is hosting a photo exhibition on the importance of solar energy in different communities around the world
  • Visitors to CASA SEAT can get a first look at the CUPRA UrbanRebel Concept, a new electric car that the brand plans to bring to market in 2025
  • The auditorium programming will include the new editions of the Literary Cafés and WomenZ Pro, as well as a classical music concert for the Mercè festivities

The highlight of CASA SEAT’s September agenda will be a focus on solutions for sustainable development, with the exhibition titled Solar Portraits on the use of solar energy. The space is allocating its three floors to the photo gallery of Rubén Salgado Escudero, who illustrates the importance of solar energy for some communities with little access to the electricity grid.

In this project, which began in Myanmar in 2013, Salgado Escudero portrays people in Asia, Africa, America and Europe illuminated only by solar lamps to make the case for the transformative power of solar-powered electricity production. The photographs represent the improvement in people’s lives, both those who have access to electricity for the first time through solar energy and those who use this resource on their own initiative.

On 1 September the photographer is giving a guided tour of this exhibition, which will remain at CASA SEAT until 30 September. This is a unique opportunity for Rubén Salgado Escudero to tell the stories behind each of his snapshots.

The Solar Portraits project has been published in National Geographic, Time, GEO and the El País Semanal supplement, among others.

European Mobility Week

As part of European Mobility Week, CASA SEAT will exclusively showcase the new CUPRA UrbanRebel electric city car before it hits the streets in 2025. The vehicle, which aims to become a high-performance emotional city car, is based on the Volkswagen Group’s front-wheel-drive MEB platform for small vehicles. It will be on display on the first floor of CASA SEAT from 9 September to 7 October.

In addition, on 21 September, CASA SEAT will be hosting a round table discussion on the future of electric cars. The challenges and opportunities of electrification will be defined and the main challenges will be addressed, such as range, the charging network and charging times, industrial capacity and the new infrastructures needed for this transformation.

Several industry experts will be taking part, such as Future: Fast Forward project leader Josep Maria Garcia at SEAT S.A., who will share his experience and the company’s vision of the roadmap for achieving this transformation; Miquel Nadal, executive secretary of the FIA High Level Panel (FIA Foundation), who will give his point of view on the impact on the safety of electric cars; and Joan Carlos Grande, journalist and specialist in electric mobility at coches.net. The session will be led by Pere Prat, a journalist specialising in motoring.

Music, series and literature

The month’s cultural agenda will include a new session of the cycle “The Making Of of DAMA”, the series of meetings with the female creators and professionals of the audiovisual industry organised by the management entity DAMA, together with Serielizados. The September 19th session focuses on the documentary series ‘Locomía’, the most watched non-fiction content on Movistar Plus+. Its director Jorge Laplace and executive producer Pablo Aguinaga will share the creation process with the audience and reveal how they showcased the career of the iconic 90s pop group, approaching the documentary genre from a different point of view.

On the 22nd, CASA SEAT is offering the concert Trio Concertando on the occasion of the Mercè festivities. This is the musical project of Zoltan Banfalvi on violin, Pierluigi Ruggiero on cello and Luca Trabucchi on guitar. They will be performing a repertoire ranging from original Spanish music from the late 18th century, with composers such as Antonio Ximenex and Isidro De la Porta, to Italian classicism with Paganini and Giuliani. The event is organised in cooperation with the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Barcelona, the Italian Embassy in Madrid and the Consulate General in Barcelona.

Meanwhile, the first literary Café of the new season will feature the poetry of Miriam Reyes, who will be presenting her new publication Extraña manera de estar viva. Poesía reunida (2001-2021), by Mixtura Editorial. Joined by journalist Jorge Carrión, this will be an opportunity to get to know the author of works such as Espejo negro (DVD, 2001) and Sardiña (Chan da pólvora, 2018), among others.

Conferences on the lower ground floor

On 5 September, the cycle “The New Barcelona - Moments Estel·lars” resumes, a series of interviews organised by The New Barcelona Post and hosted by journalist Toni Aira, which are open to the public. The day’s session will focus on public-private collaboration in Barcelona in the field of culture, featuring Maite Esteve, Director of The Catalunya Cultura Foundation, and Joan Oliveras, President of The Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya.

In collaboration with the UPCArts programme of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, CASA SEAT will start a new cycle of discussions linking culture and the arts with the field of science and technology. The first session, on the 12th, will be devoted to artificial intelligence and the conflicts it raises in everyday life, on the occasion of the publication of the book Artificial Intelligence and Technoethics, by Cecilio Angulo and Carissa Véliz. The discussion will be open to the general public and will be given by the book’s co-author and its publisher, Cecilio Angulo and Toni Hernández.

On the last day of the month, a new edition will be held of WomenZ PRO, a professional meeting featuring female entrepreneurs, influencers and creatives who will be discussing trends, brands and culture. Under the title “Discover the women of generation Z”, they will be debating current issues such as gender, diversity, inclusion, communication, activism, purpose and culture, among others.
