  • Artist Chris Princic, who goes by the stage name &thankyou, creates the two murals that proudly hang in the recently opened CUPRA City Garage in Sydney, which were inspired by the city
  • His works, also on display in other CUPRA City Garages around the world, are graphic landscapes that fuse the spirit of each city with the brand’s DNA
  • Textures are the fundamental element with which the artist seeks to excite and make each person feel and live a unique experience

The CUPRA City Garage in Sydney, which opened just two months ago in the heart of the city’s central business district, has two large murals hanging on its walls. They’re the work of Chris Princic, known artistically as &thankyou, shares CUPRA’s defiant spirit and constant search for emotion. His works already adorn the walls of other CUPRA City Garages in Lisbon, Milan and Rotterdam. “My artwork always seeks to merge the spirit of the city I’m in with that of CUPRA” he says. Now, with CUPRA’s recent arrival in Australia, a great step in the globalisation of the brand, this latest meeting place is another perfect backdrop for Princic’s art.

“This is my land”. This is written on one of the two murals inspired by the Australian city. “The phrases that I include in the works are an intimate part of me in a dialogue with the viewer, they come from my soul.” It’s important to &thankyou to reflect the DNA of the city in which he works, along with that of CUPRA, in his work. “Sydney has inspired me with its striking landscape, huge buildings and friendly people” he says. “CUPRA inspires with its design lines and colours.” He drew on these elements to create his signature graphic landscape. “I do it in an abstract way so that everyone can interpret it as they wish. In this case, for example, I used the patterns of the ocean that bathes the shores of the city” he says.

From Barcelona to Australia with the same spirit. One of the Sydney skyline’s most recognisable landmarks is the Opera House, just a stone’s throw from the CUPRA City Garage. This icon absolutely had to be included in one of the artist’s murals, as well as Barcelona’s emblematic Sagrada Familia from the CUPRA city that inspires the world. “I painted it upside down, as it’s on the other side of the world, but I decided to place both monuments together because even though Sydney and Barcelona are more than 17,000 km apart, they share the same spirit.”

Thrilling textures. “I love to touch things” &thankyou says. “As a 3D artist, what I really want to create are textures to paint on.” Stone is one of his favourite materials. “It’s so organic and natural... I think it goes perfectly with CUPRA, creating something that you want to touch, something that makes you feel like you want to be there” he says.

The same philosophy. Creating emotions is the essence of &thankyou’s work and is also part of CUPRA's DNA. A shared attitude that can already be felt in four of the seven CUPRA City Garages the brand has opened to inspire the world from some of its most important cities. In Sydney, Milan, Lisbon and Rotterdam, the artist’s work forms part of the unique experience to be explored within these new space concepts.

A revolutionary interior

If the exterior of the CUPRA Tavascan is a clear statement of where the brand is heading, its interior continues the same design language. As the head of Interior Design at CUPRA, David Jofré, explains, “we’ve been working hard to create a strong connection between all the parts
