"At CUPRA, we want to be a driving force for transformation for the new generations of young people and help them to inspire and transform the society of tomorrow," said Wayne Griffiths, CEO of CUPRA. "With this collaboration that we are formalising today, we are taking a step further in this direction as we will boost the talent of emerging artists and, in addition, we will carry out educational projects in schools and organisations to bring art closer to young people," he added.
Sara Puig, President of Fundació Joan Miró, stated: “This agreement marks a significant milestone for Fundació Joan Miró, enabling us to strengthen the values Joan Miró instilled in us: innovation, development, and the promotion of contemporary art for new generations of artists. The alliance between CUPRA and Fundació Joan Miró will create opportunities to elevate the work and careers of creators, empowering them to inspire and transform society.”
According to Marko Daniel, Director of Fundació Joan Miró: “The Joan Miró Prize is an international award that, since 2007, has recognised artists of all ages, genders, and cultural identities, propelling their careers through a prestigious international jury. The collaboration between CUPRA and Fundació Joan Miró serves as a catalyst for the growth and social impact of contemporary art in society.”
CUPRA named official co-sponsor of the Joan Miró Prize
Founded in 1975 to preserve the artist's legacy, promote research into his work, and elevate contemporary art, Fundació Joan Miró is a European cultural landmark deeply rooted in Barcelona. From this shared connection to the city, CUPRA and Fundació Joan Miró have come together to promote emerging talent on the international art scene. As part of this collaboration, and in line with their shared values, CUPRA and Fundació Joan Miró will also explore joint creative initiatives that reflect their commitment to contemporary art and innovation.
The CUPRA x Fundació Joan Miró partnership also designates CUPRA as the official co-sponsor of the Joan Miró Prize, one of the most prestigious awards in the international art world. This accolade aims to promote research, innovation, commitment, and freedom in contemporary artistic creation—values deeply shared by both entities. Awarded biennially since 2007, the prize has become a global platform for contemporary artists. The recognition includes a monographic exhibition at Fundació Joan Miró, the publication of a catalogue on the winning artist’s work, and a financial grant.
Beyond celebrating artistic excellence, the Joan Miró Prize drives meaningful social impact through educational initiatives in local schools and community projects, bringing contemporary art closer to younger generations and fostering creativity as a learning tool. As the official co-sponsor, CUPRA not only supports the continuation of this celebrated award but also enhances the global visibility of emerging artists. CUPRA will play a role in the jury selecting the next recipient, who will join the ranks of previous winners such as Tuan Andrew Nguyen, Nalini Malani, and Kader Attia.
